Writers on the Wharf : The Nightlife and Travis Luedke

The back of the shed gang are scared of vampires, so I finally have sometime to myself to relax and read.

On my way home I picked up two books that focus on my favourite supernatural beings, vampires.

Both books are by one of my favourite vampire authors, Travis Luedke, The Nightlife series.

The first one is the first of the series, The Nightlife New York and the second is The Nightlife: Las Vegas.

This series follows the adventures and sometimes misadventures of a stunning and alluring blond bombshell vampire, Michelle and her vampire creation companion, Aaron as they travel the globe.

But first lets look at how it all began, on the dark and dangerous streets of New York city.

THE NIGHT LIFE: NEW YORK

This synopsis was provided by another source because let's face it, being a gal who loves her detail, my synopsis would have ended up being a novel in itself!

Synopsis ::

Vampires, strippers, escorts, night clubs, gangs, pimps and corrupt cops, the Nightlife of New York is never boring.

Is she a beautiful blond guardian angel as he imagined, or something else entirely? When Michelle saves Aaron's life she shares the benefits of her blood (after getting him shot accidentally). He awakes a changed man, living in a purgatory of eternal night, never to see the sunrise again.

Michelle drags Aaron through a hardcore learning curve of vampiric slavery. Forced to adapt to servitude, Aaron is subject to her authority of compulsion. She orders him around like a puppet on a string, a dog on a very short leash. First things first, he must learn to feed properly without creating bloodslaves (humans addicted to the powerful drug-like effect of their venomous bite).

And then she puts him to work-a male escort in the sex trade-same as Michelle. Aaron walks a tightrope of strictly controlled feeding regiments and intensely erotic sexual adventures while catering to the neurotic control-freak tendencies of his new master. It's do or die, Michelle vows to eliminate him if he proves too difficult to control. The real kicker-amidst all these shocking and degrading adjustments, Aaron finds he's falling in love.

Can he maintain and keep a sliver of his humanity intact? Innocence is a luxury few can afford in the decadent nightlife of New York. In a world where sex, blood, and power over women is so readily accessible, Aaron struggles against the predatory instincts deeply rooted in his new psyche. He must find his way quickly, practicing rigid self-control, or risk the consequences of Michelle's wrath.

MY REVIEW: 4 out 5 stars.

First, a warning. Travis Luedke The Nightlife series is not for the faint of heart who like their tales to revolve around lollypops, unicorns, prince and princesses.

It is, however an intriguing, fast paced, fingers pressed tightly into your seat kind of story.

Aaron is a shy, timid young man who works as a waiter at a family restaurant living an ordinary life when he witnesses two crooked cops attempt to assault a stunning blond.

The blond is much more than her beauty though when she fights back against her attackers with the speed, the agility and strength of someone twice her size, in fact, her skill almost seems, inhuman.

However, during the fight, Aaron accidentally gets shot and falls to the ground, his life bleeding onto the street.

When the blond bombshell defeats her attackers and sees Aaron lying on the street, she is faced with a dilemma Should she save his life or walk away and let him die?

She choses to save his life and take him back to her home to wait out his recovery.

Oh, did I mention that this beautiful woman is a vampire and she saved Aaron's life by turning him into one as well?

Oops.

The rest of the book is a fast paced tale of not only Aaron coping with being a vampire and adjusting to his new immorality and powers, but knowing how to be a slave to his new mistress.

The vampire, Michelle, can hear his every thought and control his every move which Aaron finds, naturally, frustrating and violating but soon finds himself falling in love with Michelle and enjoying his new status.

Both Aaron and Michelle have a deep connection that allows each other to know each other's thoughts, transmit memories between them and know when one is in trouble.

Like in one edge of your seat scene when Michelle is tricked by the dirty cops that she injured earlier when they attacked her, and her life becomes in grave danger.

Aaron feels her distress and rushes to her aid, killing both crooked cops(this was a stand up and cheer moment for me!) while badly injuring the accomplice the cops were blackmailing.

I became so enthralled in this story that I did not realize I was at the end until it came up and surprised me, leaving me feel disappointed and anxious for Book #2.

There was only one tiny flaw with this story. Michelle is french and Travis spelled out her accent within the dialogue, writing how she pronounces english words with her native tongue, though it was necessary for the plot for Michelle's speech to be written like this, I found this distracting becoming confused as to what she was trying to say. Though it did not take away from the story line and the exciting action.

THE NIGHTLIFE: LAS VEGAS:

MY REVIEW: 5 out 5 stars

Okay, I confess, I am obsessed with the world of vampires, so much so that I aspire to be one. I like them in all sorts of ways,including the sparkly ones!Travis Luedke immersed me in the world of sexy, blond and french Michelle and otherworldly beautiful and passionate Aaron, and hooked me from the start. I fell in love with the stunning, but damaged Ana who finally found peace, love and happiness with the vampire duo; who loved her so much that I did not mind that they fed of her and had toe curling, bone melting, wild animalistic threesome with her! The intrigue of the seedy backdoors of the Las Vegas Nightlife with drug dealers, high rolling gambling and wrestling in a kid favourite dessert kept my heart pounding and on the edge of my seat through each breathtaking page turn.In my opinion, the true test of a really great book is it involves all my emotions, allows me to dive into the world with the characters in such a way that they seem real and make me love them long after I close the cover, with tears in my eyes.I highly recommend this novel, this series from this highly talented Travis Luedke.

P.S. This really, really should be a movie!
